Unit 5: Introducing Music Performance - Learning Aim A

The thing I love about music is how we get actively involved; using a variety of intrustments and having a bit of freedom of what we want to work on. Also i like working with different people and seeing what their abilities are, so everyone can help eachother.

The reason why i choose BTEC music is because i feel that i've improved a lot over KS3, such as developing my skills on piano. Also i enjoy learning something new and having something to achieve, as well as that i like to have a challenage because once I've achieved what i wanted, i will be proud for what I've done.

During school time, i have been attending piano lessons once a week and learning new songs but also trying to learn the chords. i have been learning easy tunes, such as; London Grammar, Abba Super Truper to get me used to the chords. My strengths are my concentration with learning a song until it is done and playing the tune of songs accurately.

  • Look at your scoring and then pick some skills that you will now try to develop further.
  • List the skills you have chosen to develop and explain at least one specific way in which you will develop each skill:
Skill you need to develop…
Ways you plan to develop this skill
excersizes to start the lesson and make sure that I can move between notes smoothly
Do different warm ups suggested by my teacher at the start of each practise to get me started for the lesson and every lesson build the warm up, up and make it challenging

sight reading
At least once every two weeks, go through some notes - checking I can read them so then it can be easier to develop my pieces through reading the music.

confidence
Play part of my piece infront of a friend then gradually get the audience bigger

musical expression
Make the emotion of the piece stand out and think of what emotion this piece involve.

Ensemble skills - playing in time with others
I will work on my timing and playing with Keira as I have not played with other people before.

Skills Audit summary:
The skills I have been working on lately is my timing. This is important because I am working with my partner kiera and we need to both individually know the basic chords and the timing within that and then we need to work on the melody and putting it together. We will start slowly then pick up the pace when it fits and starts to sound good.
As well as that I'm slowly working towards sight reading because if I know what the notes are it will be much easier to play any song. this is important because then it will take less time to play a piece of music and then I can develop on what I can play and make it more interesting. I will develop this skill by teaching myself and using sources of the internet or by music books. however I have been learning some of them slowly.
Also I am working towards musicality/sensitivity. This is important because it makes the piece sound refined as the chords will be played calmly and it will sound a lot better as I will know and have confidence on playing the chords.

Session 1. in my last couple of lessons I have been learning to play "say something I'm giving up on" I have been learning the chords and getting the pace faster. Also during my piano lessons I have been learning chords and changing my hands quickly and easy.
However I now need to learn the melody of the song and develop on what I've done to make it more interesting. Also me and my partner kiera need to play our piece together to see if it fits and make it more interesting by changing some chords.
next time me and kiera need to work out the melody of the song and play the song  together a couple of times.

Session 2. In today's lesson I went over the main chords which is the introduction a couple of times, then I recorded it so I can add another tune over it. In tomorrow's lesson I need to record the melody and put it over the top of the introduction. Also me and Kiera need to try and play our piece together to see if it fits in and develop our piece so it's different and has expression. However I think I have made a lot of progress because I am slowly learning the chords for the melody and making the pace quicker. I can now play the chords and melody seperately and have recorded this.

Session 3. In my lesson I was working on putting two hands together which was the melody and chords. it was very challenging but i have an idea on how to do it. however I need to practise it on each hand then put it together so it will be a faster pace and I get used to the chords. Also when I'm practising the chords I have been starting at a slow pace but now I need to think about getting the pace quicker.

Session 4: I have not been able to play with Kiera yet as I find it hard to stay in time with her but we do little bits of it slowly and little games for fun to get used to playing together and following each other. We recorded one of these today... there is a second part to this tune that we can try later.

Session 5: In my lesson i was working on the pace for "say something im giving up on you" i started slow and picked different parts of my piece and sped them up but by the end of the lesson i was working on the melody because thats a weak part of my piece. Also in the next couple of lessons i need to get more confident on the melody and then put the piece together with my partner. Also the pace is speeding up as i play it repeatedly and at different speeds.

Session 6: Milestone recording 2:

I think my warm ups have helped me play smoothly and now I am getting ready to play with Keira for my performance in learning aim B.
